Spring is here, with its daffodils, snowdrops and lambs gamboling in the field and perhaps it’s only natural that a young woman’s thoughts should turn to … weddings. It’s that time when brides to be are beginning or even finalising their wedding plans and with so much to think about, take the pressure off and let michaeljohn organise all your wedding day beauty requirements. From £250 our wedding stylists (make up and hair) can be booked for a full experience on your big day, including pre-wedding, touch ups, maintenance and styling throughout the duration of the wedding. They are available for off site treatments and are priced according to experience; they can travel to your desired location to be with you throughout the celebration. Michaeljohn has so much on offer for brides and can create wedding packages up to 12 months before the day.
You might want to start with your facial skin and body. It all starts with a consultation for the bride and also the mother of the bride with our spa manager Penny McQue. Penny begins by using her 3D facial analysis machine to take an in-depth look at the skin. “I can see what’s going on underneath see if there’s any redness, blocked pores or pigmentation, especially as we get older.” Penny’s consultation involves asking the bride or mother of the bride about her concerns and deciding how to treat the skin in question. “I can do a 6 month plan, I can do a 3 month plan or a year plan.” Says Penny “If the bride has got problematic skin I can look at it over a year so we can achieve beautiful clear glowing skin.” At michaeljohn the Bespoke advanced facial combines state of the art machinery and traditional facial techniques to treat any brides individual skin concerns and skin type. We offer a course of six for £1250 and even a one off £250 for 60 minutes. Botox and fillers are also available for deeper lines and wrinkles. Penny also recommends various body treatments with advanced technology like VelaShape3 which are available at michaeljohn for concerns like stubborn cellulite, waist slimming (to drop a dress size and take inches off) bottom lifting and saggy crepey skin on the arms. A Bespoke Body Blitz taster session costs just £90 for 45 minutes at our Belgravia Medispa.
Once you’ve sorted out your face and body, your thoughts will turn to those essential elements of your bridal look – hair and make up. Meltem Aydin is michaeljohn’s bridal hair specialist and creates the most gorgeous, flawless and precise updos, buns and braids for bridal clients. “For bridal hair this summer you’re going to see lots of braids lots of hair accessories and hair extensions,” says Mel. Michaeljohn offers a personalised package for hair extensions including an initial consultation, 25 human hair extensions and a deep conditioning hair treatment with cut and blow dry for £85. Bridal hair does take some planning and at least several visits to the salon prior to the event itself. “It depends on what kind of face shape you have and the thickness or texture of the hair. You can’t just give one style for everyone.” Continues Mel. “You need to see the dress you need to see the bride’s face then you can start creating the hair. We can treat the hair if it’s not in good condition. We have really good packages to condition colour and style.” michaeljohn’s complete hair restyle package for example, where you get a complimentary colour consultation, hair gloss, blow dry and manicure for £95. Or indeed try our combined trial hair and make up package – an advance consultation –, which is £100 for 60 minutes. We also offer a Deluxe makeover for £250 which includes a haircut, half head of highlights, and manicure at our Knightsbridge salon.
Bridal make up, like hair, takes careful pre-planning and consultation. Scarlett Rainer who has recently joined michaeljohn has over 10 years experience of doing make up for brides. “I think firstly its really important to work with the bride and the hairstylist to create a look that works perfectly with the dress,” she comments “I think that that is more important than going for the latest trend when it comes to bridal make up.” Having said this she does concede that there are some trends that work well for bridal, but they tend to be more classic and subtle make up looks. “This year it’s all about the glow really polished radiant skin, using highlighter” says Scarlett “soft and pinks peaches a little bit on the eyes nothing harsh or strong not too much contouring. The soft natural look.” She uses upscale cosmetic brands on her brides-to-be like Tom Ford, Charlotte Tilbury, Shu Uemura, MAC and Nars. “Most brides want to look like the best possible version of themselves, concludes Scarlett. “I don’t try and change the face or make them into something they’re not. I think its really important that when they walk down the aisle the bride is the most beautiful looking the future husband has ever seen her.”
And really that sums up the michaeljohn ethos, to create a breathtaking, polished bridal beauty that photographs well and that no one will forget.
